For the second season on the bounce, it could be a Welshman who becomes the winner of the coveted RBS Player of the Tournament title.

Last season, Shane Williams was the tournament’s stand-out player as he helped Wales to their 10th Grand Slam.

But this term, it is his backline colleague Lee Byrne who has caught the eye.

The full back needs your vote if he is to stave off the five other shortlisted players. He is up against Delon Armitage, Jamie Heaslip, Brian O’Driscoll, Paul O’Connell and Sergio Parisse.

The Ospreys star has played in all of Wales’ matches this season. It is his consistency in the number 15 jersey has put him in the frame for a place on the lions tour and on the shortlist for the award.

A panel of esteemed former players consisting of Jason Leonard, Keith Wood, David Sol, Ieuan Evans, Philippe St Andre and Alessandro Moscardi submitted the names of three players (in order of preference) they deemed most worthy of winning the award, based on their performance in the 2009 Championship. The six highest-ranking players were then chosen to form the shortlist.

The vote will run from 9am on Monday 16th March until 5pm on Monday 23rd March, at which point the player with the highest number of votes will be chosen as the Official Player of the RBS 6 Nations Championship.

This player will be presented with the official Player of the RBS 6 Nations Championship Award at the first possible opportunity, and the result announced on www.rbs6nations.com.
