Newport’s season went from bad to worse as they lost for the second time in four days. The Black and Ambers lost 12-9 at local rivals Pontypool last night (TUE), going down courtesy of a last-minute penalty.
Fly-half Sam Mills slotted over the winning kick for the bottom club, who now trail closest rivals Bedwas by six points, after centre Geraint O’Driscoll had already put over three earlier penalties.
In reply, Newport could not break over the try line and only managed three penalties of their own, coming from wing Steve Taylor and two from the boot of centre Tom Riley.
This league defeat comes after Newport crashed out of the SWALEC Cup 20-10 at Aberavon on Saturday.
The loss at Pooler Park means third-placed Newport failed to capitalise on this game in hand over Premiership leaders
Llanelli and Cardiff.
