It hasn’t been the easiest of years for Seven Sisters, playing in the premier league for the first time has resulted in some heavy defeats. But the Seven girls had to put that behind them to take on the newly formed Kidwelly.

The match started with both teams wanting to make a name for themselves and it took just five minutes before Seven Sisters centre Jami Davies ripped the ball out of contact and run in a 50 yard try. Davies didn’t stop there when moments later a short ball saw her bursting through the Kidwelly defence and running in another long distance try.

The more experienced Seven pack started to dominate the scrums. The lineout also went Seven’s way with second row Jaime Heydon getting her hands to everything she could in the air.

The third try came during the middle of the first half after a well-timed backs move gave outside half Emily Stephens the room the run in a try from deep in her own half. The last try before the break came as the whole of the Seven team moved the ball from touchline to touchline and a well worked overlap saw flanker Cari Bowen-Davies cross the line giving Seven Sisters a 24-0 halftime lead.

Both teams came out of the break even more determined as they did in the first 40 with big tackles and powerful runs coming from both packs, but it was the quick thinking and a well-timed chip and chase from Stephens which saw centre Jess Thomas ground the ball.

Kidwelly showed their true grit as they took ownership of the game for the following 10 minutes setting camp on the Seven try line, but a solid Seven defence ensured Kidwelly came away without crossing the whitewash.

After defending for so long, Seven started playing some smart attacking rugby and moved the ball away from the scrum toDavies who broke the gain line to touch down for her hat trick.

Seven kept playing running rugby when a tap penalty dummied to the forwards, was spread wide across the hands of the backs allowing wing replacement Victoria White to finish in the corner. The tries kept on coming with some fast hands and quick thinking saw centre replacement Leila Johns cross under the posts. The scorecard kept filling as Stephens found her target converting six of her attempts into points.

The final word went to Jami Davies as the crossed to score her forth try of the game on the final whistle.

Seven Sisters now meet Waunarlwydd in the Plate final on Sunday 28th March.
