Brotherly love will fly out of the window as Nicky Robinson’s Gloucester make the trip to Jamie’s Agen.
It will be the first time the Robinsons have played against one another having spent the majority of their careers with Cardiff and the Blues.
Jamie, who has 23 Wales caps to his name, made his Cardiff debut as a 19-year-old back in 1999. He spent 10 years in the capital, scoring 140 points.
Younger brother Nicky followed Jamie on to the Arms Park turf in the 2000/01 season and made 125 regional appearances.
But after a decade at Cardiff both Robinsons upped sticks at the end of the 2008/09 season; Jamie making the move to Toulon in the South of France and Nicky the short trip across the boarder to Gloucester.
“It will be strange lining up against each other as we haven’t done it before,” said Nicky, who is now in his second year at Kingsholm.
“When Jamie’s deal from Toulon to Agen went through in the summer all of the family booked their flights out there straight away so we should have quite a crowd – even if I don’t know who they will be supporting.
“Facing Jamie will add a bit of spice to the game but it’s just another game we must win.”
It is the first time in five seasons that Gloucester have found themselves in Europe’s second tier. But the West Country outfit will take encouragement from the fact that they lifted the trophy on that occasion in 2006. And Nicky insists he is now on a mission to replicate that triumph.
“We have to face up to the fact that we weren’t good enough to qualify for the Heineken Cup and now we go into the Challenge Cup with the aim of winning it. If we don’t I’ll be disappointed.”
