The Blues lost their second Heineken Cup match on the road on Saturday losing to former European Champion Northampton Saints, but head coach Dai Young is still confident his Amlin Challenge Cup winning side can progress if they can win the return fixture this weekend.

Even though they currently lie in third position, the Blues still have to host both the Saints and Castres Olympique at the Cardiff City Stadium before the Pool stages are complete.

“We are disappointed to come away with nothing from this game and we realise the pressure is on us now, but nobody is chucking the towel in by any means,” said Young.

“We have to make sure we win at home and then things can sometimes change very quickly”

“We have to be more accurate and it is up to us to get more ball in the return game.

“We have to improve our lineout as it was hugely disappointing because that is an area that should be good for us.

“I think there were five steals on our throw which meant we weren’t able to take advantage of some good field position.

“We knew their scrum would be tough because it is one of the best in Europe, but the lineout ended up causing us more problems.

“We have to work hard on it. Much of what went wrong was down to individual errors and the wrong calls.

“It’s just little mistakes that we have to iron out, but we can’t afford just to talk about it, we have to do it.

“I would like to think it will be different next week. We were in this game, we pushed them and had probably more of the ball in the right areas. But we have to make all of that count.”

Following Sunday’s tie against the English Premiership side the Blues will return to Magners League action over the festive period before the Heineken Cup returns for the final two rounds of the Pool stage in January.

Castres at home will be first up on the weekend of 14/15/16 January before the Blues travel to Scotland to face Edinburgh the following week.
