The Wanderers put out a one of the youngest Premiership sides that never gave up throughout the game.

Wanderers fly half Tomos Marks had a chance to open the scoring as early as the second minute after the visitors were penalised. However he missed with his kick attempt with Aberavon full back Ricky Thomas scoring a few minutes later. Fly half Matthew Jarvis added the extras.

The homeside scored their first try after quarter of an hour as flanker Alistair McDonald scored. Marks converted to tie the scores at 7 – 7. Approaching the half way mark of the first half visiting right wing Richard Carter scored his 100th club try. Carter’s try marked the start of a dominant second quarter for the Wizards. Centre Ashley Beck scored a brace of tries as left wing Richard Thomas and number eight Aaron Bray also touched down. Jarvis converted all four to give the Wizards a 40 – 7 interval lead.

The homeside showed their never-give-up attitude at the start of the second half with wing Joe Xiberras scoring a try. The Wanderers held the Wizards at bay and were unfortunate not to score again. However, Carter’s second try half way through the second half once again kick started a scoring spree by Aberavon as Ricky Thomas scored his second try, followed by captain and flanker James King, Carter’s third, then Beck’s third in the 75th minute. Replacement Jamie Davies converted all five of Aberavon’s second half tries. In the last play of the game, before time, replacement Ian Newbury got a consolation score. Marks converted to make the final score 75 – 19 to Aberavon.
