The Blues have three games left to try and clinch a top four finished and they now find themselves just two points behind reigning champions the Ospreys with a game in hand.
They welcome Benetton Treviso to the Cardiff City Stadium this week and then face two derby fixtures to conclude the season but Barber was delighted to get another victory under his side’s belt as the race intensifies.
“That was a good win for us in terms of what we are after – that play-off spot,” he told the Western Mail.
“It was what we hoped for and what we planned for. It is never easy out in Connacht and this was a very good victory that we’re happy with.
“We stuck to the tactics we talked about and came through against a side who are very physical defensively.
“That we got our tries through good work by the forwards was very pleasing.
“We’ve worked hard on the scrum, it is a vital part of the game because it allows you to build pressure on the opposition.
“We knew we had to get parity there and not give penalties away and it proved a good building block for us.”
