After successful seasons in their respective Regional Leagues these two teams had fought through the League and Play Off system involving more than 170 teams to play in the match.

The experienced Glamorgan Wanderers Youth team beat Ruthin 49-10 points to take the League title to add to the National Cup they won earlier in the month.

The score-line however does not reflect the effort, commitment and skill exhibited by a Ruthin team handicapped by the loss of some players and a long journey. Ruthin Youth were a credit to their club and the North Wales Youth League.

Glamorgan Wanderers started the match in fine form with a number of sweeping movements combining backs and forwards. They scored two early tries by Lloyd Chalk, converted by Josh Hurley to build a lead that they did not lose.

Ruthin exerted some pressure on the Wanderers as the half went on and gained reward with a try.

Before half time the Wanderers extended their lead when No.8 and captain Dan Crimmins powered his way over for his team’s third try. With the successful conversion from outside half Hurley the Cardiff based team held a 21-5 lead at the interval.

In the second half the Wanderers pulled away from their northern rivals with two tries from speedy wing Rhys Allin, Crimmins again and second row Will Higgins. All of these tries were converted by Josh Hurley.

It was he, and scrum half JB Bruzulier who controlled the match for Glamorgan Wanderers and earned Hurley the Man of the Match award.

The spirit in the Ruthin team was epitomised by their second try in the last five minutes of the match by centre Jac Williams.

Glamorgan Wanderers Youth, who have developed under head coach Stuart Baird into a strong physical team with outstanding running skills, deserve the League title that eluded them last season.

As League and Cup Champions Glamorgan Wanderers Youth are the best Youth side in Wales in the 2010/2011 season.
