Speaking a day after Warren Gatland announced his 30-man squad for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, Jones who will be taking part in his fourth tournament, backed Wales’ youngsters to shine.

The Scarlets play-maker has already equalled Gareth Thomas’ all-time appearance record for Wales with 100 caps and he could go one better and add to his tally when Wales face South Africa next month, the side he made his debut against 13 years ago.

“I’m delighted to be included in the squad and its going to be a very special tournament for me,” said Jones.

“We have a very competitive squad with a lot of talent so to make the cut is a massive achievement.

“I just cant wait for the opening game and that is what I’m focusing on now. We know its going to be a huge challenge but we have to back ourselves and we have the squad to be successful.

“We have a young squad in terms of age but these guys have a lot of experience under their belts already at this level, so they are not young in terms of experience.

“We have prepared so well for this tournament, we are all itching to get going.”
