The Welsh side were beaten 20 v 12 by Munster in Cork on Saturday and whilst they failed to create a clear try scoring opportunity they did control the game for large periods and frustrated their hosts.
And Edwards believes they can build on the performance when they return to Ireland on Friday to face Leinster.
“The players went toe to toe with them out there and physically looked good at the end of the game,” he said.
“There is never a shortage of attitude with these boys and now there is the ambition to achieve something.
“We have come to a difficult place and we can do it, we just need to get over that little hurdle now.”
“In the first 40 minutes we forced things and tried to do something special every time that we had the ball.
“You have to work hard and grind teams down, then the opportunities will come.
“That’s the lesson for Leinster, we have to do some hard yards before we get the rewards.
“We needed to earn the right to get our plays going and it took us too long. That’s probably the one criticism of our performance.
“We tried to go from the off and in the first game of the season it’s never going to be that smooth.
“Early on we should have been a bit more conservative in some of our plays.”
