Bridgend kicked off this weekend’s Principality Premiership action on Friday evening with victory over league leaders Neath.

Former Neath captain Adam Whitney impressed for Bridgend and crossed for a try as they inflicted a second defeat of the season on the Welsh All Black.

Neath came away from the game with two bonus points but Aberavon cut the gap between them to just a point with a comprehensive victory over Carmarthen Quins.

In a scrappy game, which lacked creativity, the scoring prowess of the Wizard’s half-back partnership proved to be decisive. Scrum-half David Pritchard got over for a well worked try and fly-half Jamie Davies was unstoppable with the boot, scoring six penalties.

Pontypridd’s bonus point victory over Bedwas kept them in touch with the sides at the top. In a closely fought encounter, it was winger Owen Williams’ interception try late into injury time that killed off a spirited Bedwas side.

Pontypool left it late to snatch a draw against Cardiff, Gareth Williams touching down well into injury time and Tom Hancock adding the conversion to level the scores at the death.

Gareth Bowen’s boot proved to be the difference between Newport and Tonmawr as the Black and Amber’s fly-half registered a flawless kicking display to consign Tonmawr to their eighth consecutive defeat.

Cross Keys recorded a comfortable victory over Llanelli with fly-half Sam Williams, centre Phil Williams and wing John Stone shinning.

Llandovery and Swansea were missing a host of players apiece for their clash on Saturday but it was Llandovery who came out on top, with their strength in depth seeing them home.
