Weather conditions rains on the Parade

Torrential rain in the Gwent region ensured Newport Gwent Dragons historical RaboDirect PRO12 clash against Cardiff Blues turned into a damp squib.

A waterlogged pitch at Rodney Parade forced the Welsh derby fixture to be postponed around 8pm. Referee Nigel Owens gave the ground staff every opportunity to clear the water from the pitch but torrential rain during the afternoon left the surface unplayable.

The Dragons had planned a grand opening of their new Bisley Stand which is part of the Rodney Parade regeneration. It is set to continue over the coming years and is expected to enhance the matchday experience for supporters on the East side of the ground.

Former Dragons and Newport star Rod Snow were in attendance as well as former Newport and Springbok sensation Gary Teichmann.
