Gatland sets sights on England

Wales head coach Warren Gatland said everyone in his squad is ‘excited’ about the prospect of shooting for a Triple Crown at Twickenham in two weeks time after making it two wins out of two with a 27-13 win over Scotland at the Millennium Stadium.

The victory against the Scots came a week after an invaluable away victory in Dublin which means Gatland’s men will be facing England with a 20th Triple Crown in sight if they can maintain their winning run.

“We are all going to be pretty excited about going to Twickenham and if you cant get up for games like these, then you never will,” admitted Gatland.

“It’s always nice when you are going into your third game and you are playing for a Triple Crown.

“We have a couple of days off now and then we will get ourselves mentally right for the match and we have everything to play for.”

A burst of 17 points in 11 minutes at the start of the second half put Wales on course for a satisfying win in the first of three home games at the Millennium Stadium in the RBS 6 Nations Championship.

Alex Cuthbert scored his first test try and Leigh Halfpenny got the first of his two on his way to a 22-point haul in the match.

“At half-time we said we were in a test match it was really tough,” he added.

“We were pleased with our game line play but the message at ht was to keep hold of the ball.

“We were much more accurate at the start of the 2nd half whether they were down to 14 or 13 men I thought we had upped the tempo and were creating chances.

“We certainly expected Scotland to be a lot tougher than the public did – they should have won the game against England and we knew it was going to be a difficult game.

“Losing Bradley (Davies) in the week and Sam (Warburton) just before the game, as well as having Ryan in the second row and some other injuries caused us a bit of disruption.

“But it’s a sign of our maturity that we were able to overcome those difficulties and stay true to our game plan.”
