Wales take on Italy this afternoon and Lewis is pleased at the attitude of Ben Roach’s players.

“This tournament is a fantastic experience for our young players. They have to learn to manage themselves on and off the field in a competitive environment which is invaluable.

“We have a great group of players who have trained well and now need to carry our philosophies into our three games, starting with Italy this afternoon.

“The Grand Slam success has definitely had an influence on the players. They realise that a lot of the current senior squad have worn the Wales Under 18 jersey and are therefore highly motivated to keep up those standards and emulate the Six Nations champions.

“There has always been a huge pride in pulling on the Wales jersey, at any level, and now more so than ever before, the players want to do their country justice.

“Our emphasis today and for the rest of the tournament is on producing a quality performance, if we do that, I’m sure the result will take care of itself. Every player will have a chance to prove his worth over the next three games, starting with Italy this afternoon.”
