Tondu Youth secured the cup with a 25-19 points win over their West Carmarthenshire rivals but not without a great effort from the young Athletic team.
Carmarthen Athletic Youth started well with their well organised pack of forwards taking control and their talented half backs, Scott and Jack Maynard, directing matters the Athletic took a 6-0 lead from two well struck penalty goals by Scott Maynard.
After being under pressure for the first quarter of the match Tondu struck with a try after a powerful run from the back of a scrum by No.8 David Griggs. A conversion and a penalty goal shortly after from excellent scrum half Gareth Lindenburn took Tondu Youth into the lead, and it was to prove a lead that Tondu never lost.
Through outstanding running and handling skills Tondu Youth scored two further tries by Jordan Matthews and Joseph Gatt, the latter after a searing break by wing Matthews, and Lindenburn kicked another conversion and penalty goal.
Whilst a try by Steffan Phillips and a further penalty by Scott Maynard pulled the Tondu Youth lead back even with a last minute try Carmarthen Athletic Youth could not quite catch their Mid Glamorgan opponents.
Both teams played their part in an excellent match which again underlined the talent that abounds at U19 level in Wales.
