Jones hammer blow for Wales

Adam Jones has withdrawn from the 35-man Wales squad set to contest the Dove Men Series next month, due to a knee problem.

The Ospreys prop will undergo a rehabilitation period of between 6 to 10 weeks – with regular assessments to establish an accurate return to play time – effectively ruling him out of Wales’ clashes with Argentina, Samoa, New Zealand and Australia at the Millennium Stadium, beginning next month.

Jones will also miss the national squad training camp in Spala, Poland, which departs this weekend, after being reviewed by his orthopaedic consultant today.

He originally injured his knee in early September and has been troubled with symptoms since that injury, but suffered a re-injury during the Ospreys’ Heineken cup fixture against Leicester last weekend.

Earlier this week Wales called up Scarlets tight-head Samson Lee to travel to Poland and train with the squad as cover for Jones.  A decision on whether Lee or another player will join the squad full-time for the Series will be made at a later date.
