Garndiffaith Join the Beat

Garndiffaith RFC are hosting a Join the Beat community day on November 10 as they look to boost the numbers of juniors involved at the club.

The event, funded through the WRU’s Recruitment Funding Programme, takes place on the same day as Wales’ first autumn international clash with Argentina and includes a big screen and marquee. There will also be some women’s rugby played on the day.

Starting at 10am, there will be refreshments available all day and during the screening of the match.

“Because we live in an area where there’s not much to do for the children, we’re looking to get as many of them as possible involved with the rugby club,” said Garndiffaith Sponsorship Secretary Richard Randell.

“We’re the only club with a girl’s side in the area and the aim of the day is to recruit more minis as well as attracting more women players,” he added.

“At present we have an U15 girl’s side but hopefully we’ll be able to raise an U18 side in the future.”

Ex Scarlets prop Iestyn Thomas and WRU Rugby Development Manager for the Dragons region Greg Woods will attend the event to give their support to the club.

“It’s a community driven event and we just want to help the club grow,” said Randell.

“A lot of children who used to play for the club aren’t involved anymore for whatever reason so we’re trying to get them back into rugby.

Four local women’s teams have been invited to come down on the day with a tournament expected to take place before the Wales match kicks-off.

“It’s all part of the aim of getting people involved in the club. At the end of the day unless you try something nothing will ever happen,” said Randell.

“The club will be busy, it always is on international match days so hopefully we’ll get some good weather and it’ll be a great day.”
