Williams eager for action

Liam Williams hopes his brave performance against New Zealand will be enough to get the nod to face Australia.

The Scarlets full-back-cum-wing was a late replacement for regional teammate George North, who was ruled out of the clash with a hip problem.

North returned to limited training today and is in contention to face the Wallabies.

Williams admits North has the edge when it comes to selection but is eager to taste more international action.

“There were quite a few high balls and I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t manage to take any.

“But it was great to play at the Millennium Stadium, I am just gutted we didn’t come away with the result.

“If I do get the chance next week I will try to go out and put in another good performance.”

Williams reckons Wales can take plenty of positives from their second-half performance against the All Blacks.

At one point Wales trailed by 33-points but fought back with 10 points of their own.

“We will take a lot of heart from this performance, in the second half we played really well and I don’t think we deserved to lose by 23 points,” added Williams

“In the first half we didn’t play to our strengths, but I thought the boys really dug deep and we got much better.

“We kept the ball much better in the second half and played very well.

“We know it’s going to be a similar challenge next week, Australia will want to get quick ball and play with a really high intensity.

“Hopefully the boys will come together again like we did in this one.

“We need that win to get something from the autumn series because we know three defeats in a row is not good enough.

“The first two games of the autumn did not go well at all, but we think we can go out and get a win.”

Tickets are still available for the game with Australia priced at £60 from the WRU Ticket Store (St David’s Dewi Sant), via Ticketmaster (08442 777888 and www.ticketmaster.com) and Ticketline (02920 230130 and www.ticketlineuk.com).
