The two team’s respective seasons could not have been more different so far with Bedwas surpassing all expectations to end 2012 as league leaders. The Wizards meanwhile have won just once so far this season and will be hoping 2013 brings better things.
Despite many predicting the game as a foregone conclusion, Bedwas head coach Steve Law has warned his team not be complacent and under estimate the opposition.
Indeed, Aberavon’s only win this season was over Bedwas at the Talbot Athletic Ground and the league leaders will be desperate to get revenge.
“There are no easy games in this division,” said Law.
“Aberavon may well have only won one game but they will still present a tough challenge. I’ve told my team these are the sort of games they will be judged on.
“It is essential we continue our unbeaten home record if we wish to challenge for honours at the end of the season.”
Law has faced a selection dilemma at fly half with first choice Richard Powell likely to be out for another month with a broken arm.
Ethan Davies has joined him on the injury list so Stuart Thomas steps into the number 10 jersey, a position he occupied earlier in his career with the likes of Caerphilly and Swansea. Matthew Minty steps up for his first start of the season at full back. Otherwise the backs have a familiar look about them.
Up front Matthew Pettit and Ian George start at prop while Rhys Hutcherson is recalled at hooker. Aaron Harris starts in the back row with Phillip Rees at lock. Veteran Deri Mattravers keeps hold of the No. 8 jersey.
