The home side overcame Pontypool 26-16 and utilised pace on the wing to ensure the three points. Tries from Gareth Dare and Chris Mapps were converted by fly half Josh Prosser, who also kicked three penalties for Bargoed as they strengthen their hold on top spot.

The most comprehensive victory of the afternoon came from second placed Ebbw Vale, who built on a 28-0 lead at half time to thrash Tata Steel 42-7. Try scorers included wingers Spencer Gibson and Wes Cuncliffe while two late pack drives only added to Tata’s misery. Outside half Josh Lewis converted five of the Steelmen’s six tries and crossed over himself in an impressive performance.

Full back Ceri Young struck twice for Newbridge in a tense encounter at the Welfare Ground. Leading 17-10 at the break, the home side narrowly maintained their lead over visitors Narbeth and with help from a brace of penalties from Neil Burnett grabbed a 25-23 victory.

Elsewhere, there was last minute relief for Blackwood as Paul Emanuelli put a late penalty through the posts to seal a 20-16 win over Glamorgan Wanderers. Hooker Huw Jones and scrum half Aaron Quick had crossed over to put the Griffins ahead, but three penalties and a conversion from the Wanderer’s Ianto Griffiths tightened the gap. The result gives Blackwood their first win since November.

Cardiff Met put on a fine away performance at Whitland, coming away with a bonus point 30-13 victory. Two tries from winger Pierre Tucker help the university side into fourth place in the table.

There were also comfortable away wins for Llanharan and Bridgend Athletic, as both sides picked up bonus points. It finished 31-18 to Bridgend at Beddau while Llanharan brushed aside Bonymaen 27-6.
