All the points came in a high scoring first half but neither side could sneak the win after half time.
The Drovers outscored the home side by three tries to two and will be disappointed not to have returned home with the points. The result means Cross Keys have now moved above Llandovery into third place following their win over Llanelli.
It was the away side who made a fast start on Saturday, wing Andrew Claypole crossing the whitewash inside 10 minutes. The conversion was unsuccessful though and Newport fly half Scott Sneddon, who has already passed 100 Premiership points this season, got the Black and Ambers back into things with a penalty.
And things soon got better for the home side when outside centre Daniel Robinson gave his side the lead with a well worked try. Sneddon converted in what was a hectic quarter of an hour.
Jack Roberts replied for Llandovery with a score just minutes later before Sneddon added another penalty.
It was all action as Cerith Rees kicked the first points for the Drovers with a successful penalty on the half hour mark.
Wales Sevens man Richie Pugh and Adam Davies then exchanged tries as a frantic first half ended level at 18-18.
And in a hugely competitive second period, neither side was able to sneak the win as both teams had to settle for a draw.
