It’s a huge year for Sevens rugby with both the men’s and women’s World Cup being held during 2013 with Paul John’s side defending the men’s world crown in June.
The Welsh Rugby Union is accepting nominations now for two open Sevens trials. The first will be held at Eirias in Colwyn Bay on April 17 (beginning at 7pm) followed by the second to be held at the University of Glamorgan Sports Park on Sunday 21st April with an 11am start.
All standards of player are encouraged to attend while athletes who aren’t actively involved in rugby but have attributes from their current sport that will transfer to rugby are encouraged to attend including speed, athletic ability, high level of conditioning, strength and mental resilience.
Selection into Wales’ playing programmes is on offer and the opportunity to represent Wales at two European tournaments this summer.
Plus those that are qualified will have the opportunity to put themselves forward to be considered for selection into the Great Britain Students squad for the World University Games in Russia in July.
Please indicate on the registration form if you have played rugby sevens before and if you qualify for the GB Students
The application forms need to be completed and sent back WRU National Programme Coordinator Sophie Bennett – sbennett@wru.co.uk – clearly stating whether you are attending the North Wales trial on the 17th or the University of Glamorgan trial on the 21st.
