Saturday’s action follows the two games which took place on Tuesday evening, where Llandovery secured a vital, yet convincing win over Aberavon.
The 41-3 victory means the Drovers jump from fourth to second, leapfrogging Bedwas and Llanelli in the process. But with the three teams separated by just three points with just one game remaining, the script for the final weekend could not have been written any better.
Indeed, the top four sides all face each other on Saturday with Llandovery going to Bedwas and leaders Pontypridd hosting Llanelli.
Both games promise to be ding-dong encounters and following last night’s win, Llandovery head coach Lyndon Lewis is looking forward to it.
“It was a good result last night and overall I’m very pleased,” he said of the win over the Wizards.
“We weren’t at our best but we defended very well and our scrum was solid.
“We scored some good tries but our error count was high with the ball. We lacked a bit of accuracy but we’ve got to be happy with five points.”
Llandovery had led 17-0 at the break, James Garland, Shaun Miles and Jack Roberts all crossing for a try apiece. Garland converted Roberts’ score as the home side dominated.
In the second half, there were three further tries for Lewis’ men. Wales U20 wing Aaron Warren got things moving after the break and Lee Rees and Chris Knight completed the scoring. Garland added two conversions and a penalty while Roberts also kicked two points with the boot.
The Drovers now head to Bedwas on Saturday in good heart, knowing a win at the Bridge Field would secure a play-off place.
“It all comes down to the last game now and it will be a fitting way to finish the season, especially for the fans,” said Lewis.
“It’s vital we keep our error count to a minimum and we’ll have to do that against Bedwas.
“We are doing everything to support the boys in their recovery but due to the weather and other things, we’ve got two games in four days.
“That’s the way it is and we’ll just have to deal with it.”
In the other game to take place last night, Cardiff recorded their first win in four games.
They were 33-8 winners away to Swansea with Cardiff Blues full back Dan Fish impressing for the Blue and Blacks.
Fish scored once in either half while Garyn Lucas and Dan Partridge both went over after half time.
Swansea had only trailed 13-8 after 40 minutes but a second half surge, inspired by Fish, gave Cardiff a bonus point win.
