The Wizards were plagued with injury throughout the past campaign and were near the bottom of the table for large parts of the season but the Port Talbot Athletic outfit saw their fortunes improve in the New Year to eventually finish ninth in the table.

Versatile backs Dean Gunter and Chris Morgans along with back row Craig Everett have already signed for the Wizards while Andrew Clatworthy has been appointed captain.

Gunter  can play at outside half or centre has played in the premiership for current Sleague and cup champions Pontypridd, along with a stint at Cross Keys.

Morgans rejoins the Wizards from Premiership rivals Neath. “I enjoyed playing for Aberavon when I last played for the club and I know the coaches well. Aberavon had a good second half of the season and hopefully I can help them to the top half of the league again next year and can’t wait to start training in the summer along with meeting the passionate Wizard’s supporters.”

Everett joins the Wizards after a spell at Newport and has also represented Wales at U21 level.

Clatworthy is already focussing on the start of the season and doesn’t want a repeat of last season where he feels the Wizards didn’t fulfil their potential.

“I want to be a successful club captain and that means hitting the ground running in June when we are back in to prepare for next season. We all know we didn’t fulfil our potential last season which hurts everyone – players and supporters alike. We have to learn from last season and get off to a flyer this year,” he said.

“Early season form isn’t so important but results are and we need to make sure we are in the mix at Christmas time so we will be targeting wins whether they are ugly or not. Our end of season form shows we are good enough – we just need to make sure we aren’t off the pace before it’s too late.

“I’m sure with the continued support of our loyal supporters and through sheer hard work we will be back where we belong next season and pushing for silverware which is no more than this club and supporters deserve.”
