Wales trailed their hosts 11-6 at the break but the young side responded to take the victory in the first of a two-test tour.
Seven new players made their debut at the Kintetsu Hanazono Stadium, four in the starting XV and three off the bench, and McBryde was delighted with their efforts.
“I’m hugely proud of the boys,” said the Head Coach of the tour.
“It’s disappointing that we put ourselves in the position we did but the boys dug deep in conditions they aren’t that familiar with and I can’t fault them.
“They really got together, showed character and guts to come through that second half.”
“I am delighted with the way we responded and came back after the break when you consider how many youngsters and uncapped players we had out there.”
