The fly-half spent a season at Cardiff Blues but went back to his home region in the summer after the Arms Park switch failed to work out.
He made an impressive comeback, kicking all 15-points in the Dragons’ victory over Ulster and is looking forward to tonight’s clash with Edinburgh.
“It feels like I have never been away and running out in front of that crowd again was amazing,” said Tovey.
“It was a bit of a sabbatical at the Blues! It’s nice to be back.
“I spoke to Lyn (Jones) just after he was announced as director of rugby and I was just excited to get the chance to return and play rugby again.”
“Lyn will pick on performances and how boys are going in training. I am lucky enough to have the spot so far.
“There’s a bit of a different atmosphere here now with a great team spirit. All of us get on together and I think that is something Lyn has brought in, to look after each other on the field.”
Edinburgh crashed to defeat at the hands of Munster last weekend but Tovey expects Alan Solomons’ men to respond.
“They lost to Munster last week and will be looking to put things right at home,” added the 26-year-old fly-half.
“They are similar to us in that they struggled last season and have got a new coach; they will be looking at new combinations and new attacking plays.
“A lot will change with their new coach. Hopefully we will catch them cold before they gel.”
