Dixon relishing Welsh test

Jack Dixon is relishing the opportunity to test himself against Wales centres Jonathan Davies and Scott Williams in Friday’s derby against the Scarlets.

The Newport Gwent Dragons rookie, who starred in the Junior World Championship, will take centre-stage once again at Rodney Parade.

Dixon made his Dragons debut at just 16-years-old and has gone on to establish himself in the heart of their midfield.

He is highly rated by both the Dragons and Wales set-ups and has been compared to Jamie Roberts.

He admits he looks up to the Scarlets star duo but is determined to unleash everything at his disposal in the first RaboDirect Pro12 Welsh derby of the season.

“It’s always a challenge going up against Scott Williams and Jonathan Davies, I’ve watched them on the international stage and that’s where I want to be in the future,” said Dixon.

“Friday is a Welsh trial and I will give it everything. It’s always good to play against boys who are at the top of their game and see where I am in my development.

“Jonathan Davies made a big statement in the summer by keeping Brian O’Driscoll out of the Lions side. I look up to him as a player and can learn a lot from him, but on Friday I’ll give everything against him.

“I want to push into the Welsh senior squad and I think it’s a realistic aim but I just have to bide my time, be patient and get my head down.”

Dixon is set to line-up alongside Ross Wardle after Pat Leach was ruled out of the encounter.
