Two second half tries from centre Gavin Dacey added to Ponty’s 13-3 interval lead to keep them out of danger, although when Keys flanker Scott Matthews crossed for a try to cut the gap to 8-13 anything seemed possible.
But the visitors kept their nerve, held their line, even though they lost both Wayne O’Connor and Tom Young to the sin-bin, and emerged victorious. Outside half Simon Humberstone ended the game with 18 points thanks to a try, two conversions and three penalties.
James Loxton and Luke Ford raced away for Cardiff’s tries as they recovered from their 14-10 defeat at Llandovery last weekend with a 27-9 victory at Bedwas. Outside half Ceirion Thomas kicked 13 points and Ford also chipped in with a long range penalty.
Carmarthen Quins ran in three tries in their 26-12 home win over Aberavon. Centre Dylan Morgan, No 8 Rory Gallagher and wing Rhys Thomas crossed for Quins and Craig Evans kicked 11 points.
Teenage full back Steffan Evans picked up his third Man of the Match award in succession for Llanelli as he raced over for a decisive second half try in his side’s 26-20 win over Newport at Rodney Parade. Prop Rhys Thomas and flanker Dan Thomas got the other Llanelli tries and Nick Damjamovic added 11 points with the boot.
Newport were ahead 10-9 at the break after impressive centre Tyler Morgan had crossed for the first try of the game. Ethan Davies added the conversion and a penalty in the first half, while a penalty try after the break was converted by Matt O’Brien, who also added a penalty.
