The Black and Ambers pushed Pontypridd all the way at Sardis Road last Sunday, only for two late tries to put a gloss on the home side’s victory.
Nonetheless, without a victory so far this season, Newport will be desperate to repeat last season’s 39-17 bonus point win over the All Whites and get their season up and running.
The fact that Newport were only 10-6 down to Pontypridd at half time tells its own story and head coach Sven Cronk will be hoping there is some improvement around the corner. Sadly for him, Newport’s problems have increased with an injury worry over key man Geraint O’Driscoll. Tom James will deputise at full back if O’Driscoll’s ankle injury does not clear up in time.
Elsewhere, Dale Rogers makes his third consecutive start at hooker with former Bedwas man Lewis Robling on the bench alongside prop James Monck.
Swansea were edged out by Carmarthen Quins last weekend but will be confident of a win in Newport. Dan Baker, Sam Davies and Andrew Claypole will be key men if the All Whites are to get a result.
