Field wants more Sevens action

After tasting his first piece of action on the IRB Sevens circuit in Australia, Wales’ Adam Field admits he’s desperate for more.

Bridgend centre Field made his Wales debut at last weekend’s Gold Coast Sevens and helped his side reach the Cup quarter-finals. Defeats to South Africa and Kenya ended Wales’ hopes of silverware but an earlier victory over Fiji showed the talent in Paul John’s side.

Wales have had a settled sevens squad for a while now but with Field and Chris Knight now part of the side, competition for places is as great as ever.

After returning from Australia, Field said: “I really enjoyed it. It was good fun, great to be there and a really good experience overall.

“There were a lot of ups and downs. I think we were unlucky to lose the two games on the second day, to go down in the last play of the game was tough to take but there’s a lot we can work on and we’re looking forward to the next tournament now.

“I want to be involved in every single tournament I can be. There are some things I have to work on but to be involved at the highest level was really enjoyable.”

Field’s strong ball carrying and pace have impressed the Wales management and he says he is already looking ahead to the next leg of the IRB Series in Dubai at the end of November.

“We need to be consistent and up for every single game,” said Field.

“We showed against Fiji that if we put our minds to it, we can beat anyone. It’s about keeping that same intensity throughout every game we play.

“I’m always going to be highly critical of the way I’ve played. There are things I wished I had done but at the same time, I wouldn’t take anything away from the experience.

“It’s back to Bridgend for a bit now and hopefully I can get some game time. But the next sevens tournament isn’t too far away and hopefully I’ll be involved in that.”
