Thirty five Welsh Exiles, players who study at universities outside Wales, attended Sunday’s session with many coming from across England and Scotland and from as far afield as York and Plymouth.
It all formed part of preparations for games against the German national side and England Students, with both matches taking place during the Six Nations period early next year.
“The Wales Students side offers a genuine opportunity to be identified for representative rugby in Wales as well as an excellent route to progress your rugby career,” said WRU Rugby Partnership Manager Adrian Evans.
“Since the reintroduction of Wales Students in 2011, two players have gone on to secure full regional contracts, six players have represented Wales Sevens and many others have gone on to gain Welsh Premiership club contracts.
“Hopefully players coming through this season will achieve a similarly high level of success.”
To be eligible to play for Wales Students, any potential player needs to be Welsh qualified according to IRB regulations. This means they can qualify in three main ways.
• If a player was born in Wales.
• If a player has three years full time residency in Wales.
• If a player has direct Welsh born family – for example, a parent or grandparent.
