WRU Wednesday League round-up

Cowbridge Comprehensive head coach Matt Silva says his side will continue to improve after they registered a comfortable 32-0 win over Gower College.

The victory made it two from two for Cowbridge in the second stage of the competition after another high scoring win over Pembrokeshire Schools last week.

Jack Davies, Harri Thomas, Tyler Williams, Nick Griffiths and Jordan Viggers all scored as Cowbridge produced some entertaining rugby on the artificial surface at the WRU National Centre of Excellence.

“We’ve been working hard in training and it all came to fruition this afternoon,” said Silva.

“We kept the ball well and didn’t give Gower many opportunities, that was the key thing.

“Gower defended well in the first half but we scored some good tries after half time and that was pleasing. We’ve won two from two so far but we’re just taking it one game at a time.”

Fly half Williams produced an impressive performance, converting Davies’ try and kicking a penalty for a half time lead. In the second half, he made two more clean breaks as Cowbridge pulled away.

“The boys are getting used to being involved in a professional environment,” said Silva.

“We’re training regularly, doing video analysis and they’re enjoying that mentality.

“It’s a learning curve for all of them and it’s about applying themselves regularly. But we’re a young side and will be together again next year so overall, it’s not going too bad.”

In the other Wednesday League games to take place on this week, Bridgend College made it an evening to remember at the Brewery Field with a high scoring win over Coleg Sir Gar. Bridgend’s 33-26 victory means they’ve had a solid start to the second stage though for Sir Gar, it’s a different story. Last year’s champions have now lost two consecutive games and look like facing a struggle to retain their title.

In north Wales, Coleg Llandrillo kept up their good home record with a 52-29 win over Coleg Gwent while the other game to take place in the Trophy competition saw Newport High School defeat Pembrokeshire Schools.

Coleg Y Cymoedd stayed unbeaten with an away win over Neath Port Talbot College.
