A product of Llantwit Fardre, Lewis made 146 appearances for Pontypridd in three spells with the club between 1997 and 2009. A skilful and creative back rower, he went on to win 16 senior caps for Wales.
He also represented Swansea, Rotherham Titans, Bath and Bristol in a long and distinguished playing career before returning to his roots as player coach with Llantwit Fardre in 2010.
Following a one season stint as coach with Aberdare, Lewis moved on to his most recent role with Ebbw Vale. Now, after gaining valuable experience in coaching as well as working as a WRU Development Officer, he returns to Sardis Road in the wake of Dale McIntosh’s departure to Cardiff Blues.
“We are pleased to announce that once again we have been able to appoint our number one target from within our own fold,” said Pontypridd Honorary Chief Executive Officer Steve Reardon.
“Geraint is a highly-rated coach who amongst other things has contributed to Ebbw Vale’s domination of the SWALEC Championship.
“We are delighted to welcome him on board and as such are grateful to Chairman Jonathon Jones, Honorary Secretary Ian James and to Ebbw Vale for their professionalism and cooperation in releasing Geraint.
“He will assume his duties with Pontypridd this week.”
