Warren Gatland’s men are set to kick-off the Dove Men Series against the Springboks, their first fixture at the home of Welsh rugby since the 30-3 defeat of England last March.

The win that day saw Wales crowned RBS 6 Nations champions and McBryde is hoping to recreate the intensity Gatland’s side produced in their defeat of Stuart Lancaster’s men.

“The last match here was that great day against England so there will be happy memories coming back to the stadium,” said the former Wales hooker.

“We’ll be trying to recapture that form we showed against England and if we can recreate that atmosphere, it will help.

“It’s a tall order and a step-up in intensity but hopefully the players will be able to use that experience from the summer with the Lions.”

McBryde was speaking following Wales’ Captain’s run at the Millennium Stadium this morning. He added: “Everybody is fine, there are no fresh injuries. There is quite a bit of experience in the squad and it’s been good to see those experienced players speaking up and sharing that hunger to take the next step and be successful against a southern hemisphere team.

“We’ve lived up to expectancy in the past and hopefully we can do it again.

“Sam (Warburton) spoke to the team this morning about taking that next step and not being content with being second best.”

As forwards coach, McBryde is looking forward to the battle up front where South Africa bring their well renowned physicality to the table. Springbok head coach Heyneke Meyer has named a vastly experienced side but McBryde argues Wales have more than enough firepower to win tomorrow.

“South Africa have been together for a number of months so it’s a tall order but we’re not hiding away from that,” he said.

“We’ve got to take confidence from the players in our team. We have to focus on ourselves, keep our composure and if we do that, then we know we’ll be in with a shout.

“The Springboks pride themselves on their set piece and exerting their physical presence there. We know it will be a tough day at the office but we’ve highlighted certain areas where we can attack them. I’m looking forward to the forward exchanges.”
