The victory moved the inform Keys into fourth place and they will be in confident spirits ahead of their British & Irish Cup away trip to take on Leinster this weekend.
Last year’s double winners Pontypridd were 25-8 victors at Carmarthen Quins last Saturday but this time around they were blown out of the water by Keys.
The victory was based on the visitors moving into a healthy 30-5 half time lead. Dan Hodge, Elliot Jones, James Cordy-Reddan and Scott Matthews all crossed for the Keys with Dorian Jones kicking 18 points from the tee.
Matthew Nuthall, Garwyn Smith and Geraint Walsh responded for Pontypridd but there was to be no doubting the winners of this contest.
Dorian Jones opened the scoring for Keys with a snap drop goal and with the home defence under pressure, his side soon crossed for the first try of the day as Hodge finished off an overlap. The conversion was added but Pontypridd hit back with a score from Nuthall.
Keys then replied with a penalty from the inform Dorian Jones but with both sides still well in the game, Pontypridd pressed the self-destruct button. A Dai Flanagan chip ahead was collected by Elliot Jones who ran 40 metres to score with Cordy-Reddan soon adding a quick-fire second after picking up a loose Pontypridd pass.
Dorian Jones converted both scores and dropped a second goal for a comfortable interval advantage.
Needing a second half revival to contest the game, Pontypridd started well with Wales Under 18 centre Smith kicking ahead to score. Numerous replacements followed but the home side’s momentum was hit when Craig Locke was yellow carded.
Now with a man advantage, Keys struck for a vital score when a huge shove from their forward pack saw them cross the line, Matthews claiming the score.
Yet another penalty from Dorian Jones pushed Keys further clear and although Pontypridd hit back with a Walsh score, converted by Simon Humberstone, it was not enough to spare them from a heavy defeat.
