The English Championship side were dealt a first half blow when flanker Neil Best was sent off for upending Pontypridd second row Craig Locke. Geraint Lewis’ side took advantage by moving into a 10-3 lead, wing Owen Jenkins opening the scoring with skipper Simon Humberstone adding five points with the boot.
Scottish got back into things with Peter Homan scoring an interception try and Dan Newton kicking them into an improbable lead.
But Tom Pascoe and Thomas Young sealed the win for the defending Principality Premiership champions rendering Mike Doneghan’s late effort a consolation.
The three other Welsh sides in cross-border action this weekend didn’t fare quite as well. At Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli were edged out 16-20 by Rotherham. Kev George’s side went into an early 3-0 lead via a Josh Lewis penalty before the English side hit back.
Two tries and the boot of Lloyd Hayes gave them a 20-9 lead early in the second half and although replacement Ed Price got Llanelli back into it, they were unable to claim what would have been a vital home win.
Aberavon were beaten 22-41 by Leeds Carnegie at the Talbot Athletic Ground despite the Wizards scoring three tries. Backs Jay Baker and Nathan Edwards both scored and although Wales winger Dafydd Howells added a third, Leeds were clear winners.
Across the Irish Sea, inform Cross Keys found Leinster A too hot to handle in Dublin. Coached by former Irish full back Girvan Dempsey, Leinster produced some scintillating rugby to run out 31-0 winners. Tries in each half by Darragh Fanning did the damage.
