The hosts, to their credit, kept things tight in the first half and went into the break facing a slender 7-3 deficit thanks to an early Wes Cunliffe score for the Steelmen. The second half was a different story as Ebbw Vale ran in five more tries including a brace from Ronnie Kynes and scores from Ian Smerdon and Leighton Bellamore.
Llanharan’s Gabriel Davies went over but it was little more than a consolation as Ebbw Vale ran out 36-10 victors to make it 12 wins out of 12.
Bottom of the table Bonymaen shocked RGC1404 to record only their third win of the season with a hard fought performance at Parc Mawr. Both sides scored in the first half, Robert Jones for the hosts and Lewis Barker for RGC1404 but it was Ian Brookes’ conversion for Bonymaen that split the sides at half time. No more points were added in the second half as Bonymaen held out for a 7-5 win.
Fellow strugglers Tondu also pulled off a magnificent win and only their third of the season with an 11-5 win at Bargoed Park. A try from Matthew Phillips and two penalties from Gareth Powell was enough to give the Waterwheelers the victory. Darren Humphries scored for Bargoed who remain in third place.
A dominant second half display saw Tata Steel beat struggling Blackwood 38-7 at Groes Fields. A try apiece in the first half saw Blackwood into the break on level terms 7-7, Ben Davies scored for the Saints and Andrew Collins went over for Blackwood. The host’s displayed their superiority in the second half with a brace from Cameron Davies and tries from Ross Pritchard, Gareth Walters and Mark Harvey as well as four conversions from Walters.
Cardiff Met recorded a convincing 6-26 win over Beddau at Mount Pleasant Park. Two tries from Garyn Smith and 16 points from the boot of Owen Thomas gave the students a resounding victory.
Pontypool held off a remarkable Newbridge comeback at the Welfare Ground. The Poolers raced into a 19-0 lead at half time with two tries from Trevor Jones and one from Aaron Quick. The hosts fought back with second half tries from Ryan Lee, Ethan Doyle and Rhys Price but fell agonisingly short of completing the comeback as the game ended 19-17.
Bridgend’s encounter with Narberth was abandoned due to a serious injury.
