While the unbeaten, and seemingly untouchable, leaders Ebbw Vale were ending their year on another bonus point high, beating RGC 1404 45-0 at Eugene Cross Park, others round them were falling. The victory allowed the Steelemn to end 2013 with an unbeaten record of 28 league wins and extend their unbeaten run in the Championship to 32 games since 20 Octoebr, 2012.
Second place Narberth missed a golden opportunity to enhance their position as they could only manage a 13-13 draw at home against bottom of the table Bonymaen. After seven straight wins it was a costly set-back for the Otters against a side still reeling from a 71-0 hammering at Ebbw Vale the previous weekend.
Narberth’s draw was still enough to keep them in second place, but Ebbw Vale no lead the Championship by 22 points, with Pontypool and Bargoed just three points behind Narberth. Pontypool were far too strong for struggling Beddau, winning 44-8.
There were six tries in all for the home side, with skipper Luke Dyckhoff bagging a hat-trick and the others coming from Josh Hurley, Dan Hale and Chris Laing. Sam Mills kicked 12 points to complete the rout.
Bargoed stayed in touch at the top with an impressive 24-3 triumph at Newbridge in a game that featured no fewer than eight yellow cards. The visitors picked up a vital try bonus when Gareth Dare ran in their fourth try late in the game to make their victory complete.
Other away-day winners were Bridgend Athletics, 15-15 at Blackwood, while Tata Steel triumphed by the same score at Tondu. The game between Cardiff met and Llanharan was postponed.
