Dai Flanaghan opened the scoring for Ponty with an early penalty which was added to by a penalty try, and two tries from Geraint Walsh, all converted by Flanaghan. Quins were still in it at the break thanks to Rhys Williams’ try, trailing 24-7, but Dafydd Lockyear added a fourth try for the hosts before Garyn Smith sealed the win.

Craig Evans managed to get a consolation try for Quins, which he converted himself but it wasn’t enough and they lost the chance to move to the top of the league.

Llanelli kept themselves in contention for the title with a 36-21 victory over Cross Keys. Tries from Darran Harris and James Griffiths, both converted by Dion Jones combined with two Jones penalties to put the hosts in a commanding position at the break.

Henry Palmer’s try and two Dorian Jones penalties for Cross Keys meant the deficit was only nine points but Llanelli kept the pressure up in the second half. Duane Edgar added a third try, converted again by Jones who went on to add another three penalties.

Dorian Jones did his best to reduce the deficit for Cross Keys with two penalties of his own and a drop goal but couldn’t stop his side from slipping to their seventh league defeat of the season.

Bedwas bounced back from three defeats in a row to defeat Aberavon 42-23 thanks to an impressive hat-trick from Elliot James. He grabbed his side’s first try of the day, converted by Richard Powell, and added two more later in the game after Harley Thompson had scored one of his own.

Evan Yardley, David Pritchard and Mike Powell all got on the scoresheet for Aberavon but the James’ efforts combined with the boot of Powell, who added two penalties to his tally for the afternoon, ensured a return to winning ways for the home team.

Bottom of the table Swansea remain with just one league win this season after a 24-15 defeat at Llandovery. The sides were level 10-10 at half-time, but Llandovery’s class told after the interval. Richard Williams try, converted by Cameron Clement and a Clement penalty gave Swansea their ten first-half points with Glyn Griffiths and Richard Brooks crossing the line for Llandovery.

Clement grabbed a try for Swansea in the second half but Lawrence Reynolds scored tries in the 59th and 69th minutes to seal the win for Swansea, with both converted by Ian Brooks.

Cardiff picked up their ninth win of a mixed campaign with a 30-21 win over Bridgend. An early try and penalty from the visitors had them 8-0 up before Tom Slater crossed the line for Cardiff, with Dean Gunter adding the conversion.

Gunter followed it up with a long range penalty to make it 10-8 before the visitors were reduced to 14 men following a yellow card. James Loxton took full advantage and scored his side’s second try of the day, with Gunter again converting. Bridgend got a penalty before the break to reduce the deficit to 17-11 and another three points after the interval put them right back in it.

But Loxton added his second try, converted by Gunter, to make it 24-14. Again Bridgend fought back with a converted try but two late penalties made it 30-14 and gave Cardiff the win.

Neath remain just one place off the bottom after only managing a single penalty in a 20-3 defeat at Newport.
Owen Broad opened the scoring for the home side with a converted try before one of two penalties in quick succession went through the posts to make it 10-0.

Dale Ford cut the deficit to seven with a penalty mid-way through the first half  but a Newport penalty on the half-hour mark made it 13-3. It was a scrappy game but Broad added his second try of the afternoon on 50 minutes to complete the scoring and secure the victory.
