Ebbw Vale ready to party

Ebbw Vale will be celebrating promotion back into the Principality Premiership if they can pick up at least a losing bonus point against Beddau this Saturday.

The Steelmen have swept aside each and every one of their Swalec Championship opponents this season, winning all 20 games and picking up 18 try-scoring bonus points.

The runaway Championship leaders beat Gwent rivals Newbridge in an eight-try romp on Tuesday night, a win that means that even a shock defeat to the Mount Pleasant Park outfit could still guarantee the title.

Now all Ebbw have to do to get into the party spirit is gain something from their home tie with a side they have already comprehensively defeated twice this season – winning 71-13 in the first round of the Swalec Cup and 43-3 away from home in the league.

But Beddau, who currently sit only four points above bottom club Blackwood, will be hoping to snatch an unlikely win to move clear of the other relegation candidates.

Ebbw Vale found themselves struggling on and off the field at the start of the 2010 season after being relegated to WRU Division One East but they began their bid to return to the summit of Welsh club rugby by winning the title two years in a row, qualifying them for the newly formed Swalec Championship.

They went on to win the league in style last year, coming out victorious in 25 of their 26 games, but the side from Blaenau Gwent are on course to go one better this season having maintained a 100% win rate throughout the campaign.

Jason Strange‘s men have 98 points from 20 games and just one more would see them take an unassailable lead at the top of the WRU Championship with six matches remaining.
