Welsh Colleges continue dominance

The Welsh Colleges Women’s Sevens team has continued its dominance at national level by claiming the British Colleges National Championships for the sixth consecutive season on the trot at Bath University.

Coached by Welsh internationals Jenny Davies and Gemma Hallett, Welsh Colleges stormed to gold winning territory by amassing 181 points while conceding just 20 from their five games.

Neath Port Talbot College student, and current Wales international, Elli Norkett led the way by racing over for 11 tries but she was closely followed by Pembrokeshire College and Scarlets Under 18’s player Jennie Collins who finished the tournament with 10 tries.

Welsh Colleges opened their account with a hard fought 20-10 win against South West England before running riot against East England to record a comfortable 43-0 victory.

Welsh Colleges brushed aside Yorkshire & Humberside 37-0 before confirming their status as the best side in the country with victories over North West England (26-5) and South East England (55-5).

Victorious coach Jenny Davies, said: “I’m very pleased with the girls and am speechless that we have won the title for the sixth year in a row. The girls were professional and they were exciting to watch, they made it very easy for the management team.

“It’s exciting to think that there are talented young females in Wales and many of these girls have the ability to progress through to the senior Welsh team. The future looks bright for Welsh women’s rugby.”
