The Ironmen were in complete control from the start and stunned Glynneath were the intensity they were able to bring to the game. Glynneath had picked up a place in the Silver Ball final coming into the game and had only lost one league game.
In fact, Glynneath were even further ahead in the race for a place in the SWALEC Championship than their rivals from the East. They are 22 points clear at the top of Division 1 West, while Merthyr are seven points ahead.
Merthyr were 27-10 ahead at the break and then piled on a further 39 points in a second half display that had coaches Lee Jarvis and Garry Horrigan purring with delight. Cameron Gardiner, Martin Luckner, Iwan Williams, Chris Davies, Craig Everett and Lewis Jones joined Howard among the try scorers, while Steve Lang kicked 16 points.
Joining Merthyr in the final will be Division 2 East leaders, Rhiwbina. They beat Llantwit Fardre 16-6 at Taffs Well with a try in each half.
Full back Sion Summers grabbed the first try to go with two Gareth McCarthy penalties to give the Cardiff club an 11-6 interval lead. Then acting skipper Harry Trelawny scampered over for a try which secured a trip to the Millennium Stadium.
It was a special moment for the Rhiwbina scrum half, who had seen the Llanishen High School team he coaches win the Welsh Schools Under 18 Cup at the Millennium Stadium earlier in the month. Now he will get his chance to make it an unique double.
Merthyr narrowly beat Rhiwbina in a pre-season friendly.
