The result leaves the Ospreys chasing Ulster and Glasgow Warriors, who occupy third and fourth place respectively in the RaboDirect PRO12 table. Glasgow are four points clear and have a game in hand over Tandy’s men – while Ulster are five points better off.
Glasgow are in fine form but Ospreys fans will be hoping they can catch the Ulstermen, who face two difficult games against their Irish rivals Leinster and Munster after their thumping by the Warriors at the weekend.
“I’m not totally satisfied. I think there’s a bucket-full of good in the way we tried to play, but ultimately we turned the ball over too many times,” said Tandy.
“The effort was outstanding and the amount that we tried to play, so there are real positives in regards to the team we are putting together but there is still an element of disappointment that we didn’t score four tries. We left the ball over the line twice where we could have scored a couple of tries so there is a bit of disappointment.
“If we had played well, we felt that we could score a couple of tries early on and then push on towards the latter end of the game. But we couldn’t pinch a try early doors.”
The Ospreys will now be looking for big wins over Zebre and Connacht in their two remaining fixtures, while also hoping Leinster and Munster can do them a favour in the PRO12 run-in.
“I’m a Leinster fan for the next couple of weeks,” added Tandy. “Leinster can go anywhere in the world and win and it would be nice to see Ulster going to Munster having to win on the last day of the season.
“But we have a big job to do against Zebre who had a good win against Edinburgh, so we’ve got to look at ourselves first and foremost.
“We’ve just got to win our games. Sometimes we get too carried away with bonus points – we would have liked one to put more pressure on the top teams but, ultimately, we have to win our last two games.”
