The Wales and British and Irish Lions backs guru, and renowned former international scrum-half, is lending his knowledge and expertise as part of a fundraising campaign for Richards’ family, with proceeds from the training session and a host of other club fundraising activities going towards daughters Megan and Lowri Richards’ Educational Fund.

Richards died in a tragic site accident two years ago and was a former captain, coach and club steward at the Crymych club, which is one of the more modern member clubs of the Welsh Rugby Union, having joined in 1995 just 11 years after their formation.

Crymych kick-off their SWALEC Division one West campaign with a visit to neighbours Carmarthen Athletic on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm) and they will be eager to pick up some tips from Howley, who lead Wales to RBS 6 Nations Championships glory as head coach in 2013 whilst Warren Gatland served his Lions sabbatical.

The West Wales outfit finished mid-table in SWALEC Division one West, which was won by Glynneath, last season just a place above Saturday’s opponents Carmarthen Athletic in 8th and they play their first home game at Parc Lloyd Thomas against Gorseinon a week later.

“This event has been expertly organised by Gary Evans, a local business man and close friend of Glyndwr’s,” said club secretary Gordon Eynon.

“We are honoured to be welcoming Rob Howley to Clwb Rygbi Crymych in memory of our beloved former coach and captain.

“The players and coaches are really looking forward to it and we hope that all the rugby fans from the surrounding area will come along to see Rob in action and to help support such a worthy cause.”
