The Liberty Stadium region kicked-off their Guinness PRO12 campaign by crushing Benetton Treviso 44-13, while the Dragons slipped to a 16-11 defeat away to Connacht. But Biggar is has warned the Ospreys’ young guns not to take anything for granted when they enter the Dragons’ lair on Friday night.
He said: “We know that we are going to have to play a lot better than that in Newport but was a good stepping stone for the boys to learn from. It will be hugely different next week at Rodney Parade and that’s something that some of the boys may not have experienced.
“It’s not an easy place to go, it’s difficult surroundings and the crowd get on top of you. You have to make sure you are on the money from minute one or otherwise you’ll get a real stuffing up there. We certainly need to improve, be a lot more accurate.”
Last season’s PRO12 player-of-the-year Biggar kicked 18 points in the five-try win on Friday night. And the Wales ace is hoping to help the Ospreys’ starlets to come-of-age and snatch a derby day triumph in-front of the partisan crowd in Newport.
He said: “We have a very young squad, very inexperienced, and you only get experience from playing. But we’ve got some good players in and around the youngsters who will help them to step up, and take the lead in developing them.”
“We need to improve in a lot of areas, working off the ball is one of them where we need to work a bit harder, but all in all it was a positive start which leads us into the season nicely. There are a lot of young boys out there who will learn a lot from the game against Treviso.”
Scrum-half Rhys Webb scored a try and made three line-breaks against Treviso and has been passed fit for the clash after he took a knock to the head in the second-half last week.
Hallam Amos is poised to make his PRO12 comeback in the centre after he recovered from shoulder surgery, but Pat Leach (knee), Ashley Smith (foot) and Ross Wardle (knee) are still sidelined.
