The 11-try victory ensured Swansea, who were relegated from the Principality Premiership for the first time last season, stayed on top of the table at the end of the opening two weeks of the new campaign.
As well as Bennett’s hat-trick, No 8 Simon Evans crashed over for two tries and Nicky Thomas helped himself to a match tally of 23 points with a try and nine conversions. The home side scored 35 points in the first half and 38 in the second.
Swansea meet one of the four other unbeaten sides in the Championship at St Helen’s on Saturday when they entertain Tata Steel. They had tries from hooker Brett Thomas and outside half Steve Lewis to thank for their 10-9 home win over last season’s runners-up, Cardiff Met.
The students kicked three penalties through Owen Thomas (2) and Chris Levesley, but were unable to bridge the gap. That made it two successive defeats for Chris Davey’s side at the start of their season and they will be looking or an opening victory when they host Bridgend Athletics this weekend.
Newly promoted Merthyr kept up their winning ways as they followed up their 28-20 opening day victory at Llanharan with a bonus point victory over Tondu. Steve Lang kicked 12 points in the 32-11 triumph, while Harry Millard (2), Lewis Jones and Martin Luckwell crossed for tries.
The Martyrs travel to Narberth this weekend, who have yet to taste defeat after an opening day win and a 23-23 draw at Newbridge last weekend, while the other unbeaten side, Bargoed, are back on the road heading to Blackwood following their epic journey north where they beat RGC 1404 34-30 last weekend.
Although they were trailing 17-12 at half-time, Bargoed managed not only to turn the result around in their favour, but also pick up a try bonus point. Darren Humphries led the way with two tries and James Ivy and Phil Price got the others.
It wasn’t all bad for former Wales prop Chris Horsman’s home side as they picked up two bonus points in defeat thanks to tries from Alex Schwartz, Huw Grundy, Tom Blackwell and Kelvin Davies. RGC head south to face Llanharan this weekend, where the home side will be looking to notch their first victory after successive defeats to Merthyr and Pontypool.
Centre Mark Thorley led Pontypool’s march to a 32-13 home victory over the Dairymen as he crossed for two of his side’s four tries. Matthew Thomas and Nathan Brooks grabbed the others and Tom Hancock kicked 12 points.
There was also a home bonus point for Bridgend Athletic in their 27-17 victory over newly promoted Glynneath.
