Tries from scrum-half Huw Rhys, wing Phil Price, full-back Jordan Purcell, replacement scrum half James Pizey and a penalty try puts Bargoed a point clear at the top of the Championship. Outside half Josh Prosser also landed five conversions in the win.
Swansea kept up the pressure on Bargoed with a 30-0 whitewash at home to Tata Steel. Nicky Thomas kicked a couple of early penalties before captain Liam Gadd touched down in the corner for the Whites’ first try, with Thomas adding the extras.
Another Thomas penalty before half-time gave them a 16-point lead at the break before yellow cards for Ryan Thomas and Tom Sloane put the Whites down to 13 men in the second period. But a converted penalty try and a Sloane try from the halfway line secured the victory and a second consecutive clean sheet for the Whites.
RGC 1404’s 26-5 win at Llanharan was marred by a late injury to scrum half Afon Bagshaw. Bagshaw had scored one of RGC’s four tries, with scores from Tom Blackwell, Carwyn Ap Myrddin and a penalty try helping the north Wales side to a bonus point win.
Bill Carey scored the bottom club Llanharan’s only points with a second half try as they remain without a league point.
Narbeth came out on top in a tough battle with Merthyr, Nick Gale scoring twice and tries from Morgan Griffiths and Steve Martin completing a 31-15 bonus point win.
Elsewhere Cardiff Met secured their first win of the season with a 23-10 victory over Bridgend Athletic.
Owen Thomas scored a try and two conversions and there were tries for full-back Lewis Morgan and centre Garyn Smith. Dan Apsee scored for the visitors and Josh White kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Glynneath crossed five times in their 46-24 victory over Newbridge at home as they picked up their first win of the season. Daniel Norton, Steff Stone, James Pike, Alan Jones and Josh Jones scored tries with Jack O’Reilly adding five penalties and three conversions with the boot.
Pontypool won 22-17 at Tondu thanks to tries from Marc Thorley, captain Ben Parry and Ashleigh Norton, with Tom Hancock adding two conversions and a drop goal.
