The west Wales region have flattered to deceive so far under new coach Wayne Pivac in the Guinness Pro 12, spurning handy leads in their draws against Ulster and Edinburgh, and being well beaten by Leinster and Munster.

They will need to find their cutting edge quickly as the kick off a Pool 3 campaign which pits them against two-time defending champions Toulon, two-time winners Leicester and 1999 victors Ulster. It is a fact not lost on Wales centre Williams ahead of this weekend’s daunting trip to France.

He said: “If we can get it to click we will put a side away properly. We have left plenty of chances out there in the Pro12 so far this season and hopefully we can improve that for Europe and things will start to come together.

“We are only at 50 or 60 per cent in terms of performance, but that is exciting for us because we know there is plenty more to come and hopefully in Europe we will start to see it all coming together.

“You need that clinical edge in Europe because you cannot afford to give as much ball away as we have in recent weeks.

“When we get into those areas in the opponents 22 we have to get points otherwise teams of the calibre we will face in Europe will punish us.”
