Hammett wants to keep good times rolling

Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby Mark Hammett wants his side to claim a Munster scalp to get their season back-on-track.

The former All Black hooker has endured a tough start to life in the capital, with just one league win to their name so far this season.

But they did claim a much needed 33-18 win in their European Rugby Challenge Cup round two clash with Rovigo on Saturday.

And Hammer is desperate to keep the good times rolling when they welcome Anthony Foley’s Munstermen to the BT Sport Arms Park this weekend.

He said: “We are not going to get carried away by the Rovigo result, but this is a confidence booster and we have to use that.
“We have got a massive game now back at home against Munster before the LV=Cup kicks-off. It’s a big end to the first round of league fixtures before we start the LV=Cup. It does culminate for us and we will see where we are collectively as a group.”

With Wales’ Dove Men Series camp underway, the Kiwi coach has to battle with a number of absences to his Blues squad.

But he reckons his side have enough strength in depth to not let their Italian victory go to waste at the Thomond Park side.

He said: “Very good can turn very bad in a week, even without a game, but that is sport. But the boys are well focused on their recovery routines and getting back out there for the Munster game.”

“We will sit down and look at see where we are in terms of selection. The international window kicks in now and that will mean that we lose some players but we also might have some back in. There will be changes. We are looking ok in terms of injuries, but that is always touch wood and cross fingers.”
