‘Speedy Gonzalez’ penned a deal at the BT Sport Arms Park in September to keep him in the capital until the end of the season.

The 37-cap international has been made to wait for his Blues bow, but Director of Rugby Mark Hammett is set to hand Amorosino his first start in the Guinness PRO12.

He said: “Lucas is available this week and ready to play. When he signed we couldn’t play him in Europe, purely because of the timings with the contract and because we had already registered our squad.

“We’d like to get him started and he will be in the squad. He has worked hard and he is as keen as anyone to get started for Cardiff Blues.

“We have seen his skills in training, there is no doubt he will offer us something. But like any player in his first game, it will take him time to adjust to the competition and style.

“We will be there to support him in his first few games rather than expect him to win games for us straight away.

“His basic skill set is very good with his high ball and accuracy of kicking. He is technically very good and knowledgeable.

“Lucas has played a lot of Test footy and when you have done that, particularly in the games he has when you are up against tough teams week in and week out, you can’t help but become a better player for it.

“He will be involved for the next two weeks before he goes off for two internationals with Argentina.”

‘Hammer’ also revealed Gareth Anscombe is due to arrive in mind November adding: “Gareth could have got here by November 3 but I have told him to take another week. It’s more important that he gets recharged rather than rush here to go straight in.

“He will be here around November 10 which gives us a few days before the Scarlets game in then LV=Cup and a full week leading into Edinburgh. We will see where he is then.”
